Today I received a call I never thought I would get in a million years. Williams father called me to let me know that Will had passed away this morning unexpectedly due to cold & flu like symptoms. My heart sunk into my throat and the tears began to roll down my cheeks. I just saw Will September 23rd for his 9 month session. I've been photographing William since last December 2008 and every 3 months since then. It's so hard to believe that he is gone. Will was such a light into so many lives. His smile and giggle could light up the room and I know that he will be missed by so many, including myself. I feel so honored that David & Jaimi asked me to create a collage of our last 4 sessions together for his funeral. As you can see below, his face just makes you want to smile! My heartfelt prayers go out to the Romans family. I know William's smile and the light that he shared in his 9 short months of life will be forever treasured by all who loved him dearly...

Meet The Schmidt family.....submitted by Karen Hanson

A year after getting married, Eric and Denise had a son, Evan. Sixteen months later, their son Alex was born. Soon after birth, Alex was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. A few weeks ago, at 6 months of age, Alex underwent heart surgery to correct the defect. After being in the ICU post-surgery and recovering at home, Alex and the rest of his family are doing well. I greatly admire Eric and Denise for being such strong parents and taking such good care of both of their boys. I would love for the Schmidts to be able to receive a photography session this holiday season to document their love for one another and togetherness as a family.

We had a very warm evening for Chad & Leslie's engagement session. We decided to go down to Wayzata and I'm so glad we did. It was my first engagement session down there and I had a great time with them. So many fun little places to go for photos. Chad was a trooper and even went and did some ice cream photos for me! Matt & Jill are such a fun couple. I loved working with them on their engagement session and had even more fun with them at the wedding. We met at a park in Jordan to start our day off and we couldn't have asked for better weather. We had a very warm summer evening for Seth & Lindsay's engagement session. We went back to the place they first met and eventually got engaged....St. Thomas University's campus. We even went to the exact place where Seth proposed to Lindsay. This couple is so adorable with each other, great chemistry, which creates beautiful photos! S & L are planning a beautiful outdoor wedding in a vineyard down in Iowa next May.

This little girl holds an extra special place in my heart :) She is the beautiful daughter of my dear friends Shane & Melissa! Her name means "Great Hope" and that is exactly what she gives to so many people. Shane and Melissa held on to hope for many, many days, weeks and months that she would arrive safely and soundly and she did and for that I am so thankful. I felt so privileged to be able to photograph her on one of her first few days home and I probably held her longer than I actually took photos of her...ha ha! I'm super excited that our little girls will only be 4 months apart. Congratulations S&M...I could not be more happy that your "Great Hope" is here to stay :)

Ben and Meredith were married on a sunny but very windy day in May. We started off our day getting ready at the Marquette hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Ben & Meredith's wedding was just a short walk away in the IDS Center. They had their ceremony at Windows on Minnesota! Before heading to the ceremony we went outside on Nicollet Mall for some bridal party photos. Despite the gusty wind we still managed to have a fun time and capture some awesome photos! Then we headed in for the beautiful ceremony and reception. Meredith's family did an amazing job of adding beautiful details to every corner of the room! The reception was full of laughter and dancing...lots of dancing! Ben & Meredith hired a few of the guys from the Shout House (the dueling piano bar) to entertain guests for the evening...what a treat! Congratulations guys!

Lucy is ready for summer! We had a great session at my studio last week! Lucy was very happy, even when we put her in a tea cup! I totally forgot I had this tea cup for quite some time. I met Derek & Cori on a very warm sunny evening...97 degrees to be exact! This was my first time meeting the couple and I had such a great time with them. My daughter Kate (18.5 months now!!) and I were outside this morning and I was snapping a few photos. I realized it's been ages since I posted some updated photos of her on my blog! I know I said I would be better at it...shame on me :) I can hardly believe my first born is going to be a BIG SISTER! She's still my little girl, but at the same time, she's growing and exploring and showing so much maturity. She's still such a little ham for the camera...I love it!

Autumn & Joey

Autumn & Joey are an absolutely fabulous couple. I have adored them since the moment we first met for our wedding consultation. What I love most about them is that they made me feel like I was a part of their family. They are such a sweet couple and every person that was involved in their wedding was more than just a vendor to them. Starting out with Autumn's sister Carmelle. She designed/made Autumn's gorgeous wedding dress along with all EIGHT of the bridesmaids dresses! She recently quit her job to design dresses full time! I cannot wait till her website is up so I can post her info for all my future brides to be!! Each one of these dresses were so unique!

The ceremony was held at Faith-Lilac Way Lutheran Church, however Autumn's father is the one who actually officiated it. What an incredible way they incorporated their family into their special day! After the ceremony we rushed down to St. Anthony & Main to take photos. Just as we were getting to the Stone Arch it started to pour. We ended our day at the Golden Valley Country Club and wow what an amazing place! Not only was the food to DIE for, it was absolutely stunning! The grounds are breathtaking and luckily the rain stopped for a little bit so we could grab some photos there as well. Autumn and Joey, I wish you all the best and I hope you have a blast in New York on your honeymoon :)

Amaya was especially good with directions. She knew exactly what to do and I'm just amazed with the images we got of her! Watch out for this duo!

Jeremy and Christine had a beautiful wedding. They are really the kick off to my wedding season and I had a great time with them. Their wedding day was on the chilly side but they were still willing to go outside for a few outdoor shots. I'm so glad we did because they are most definitely my favorite shots of the day! Christine & Jeremy put a lot of care into the details of their day. They hand made their fabulous programs! I love the blue and brown combination. Jeremy also bought a very special Tiffany charm to go on a bracelet that Christine already owns. I adored the flower choices they had to coordinate with the day. Super gorgeous and they were put together by the lovely Christine of Christine's Floral Touch! Congratulations guys and hope you have a wonderful honeymoon in the Grand Cayman :)

Christian came to the studio this morning to take photos for his 1 year! He is such a good baby and we had a really great time this morning. We spend 1/2 our session in the studio with his adorable overall outfit! His mom Tracy also brought a super cute hat and #1 made out of wood for props too. Then we headed out on my roof and took some photos with the cool brick background. This was my first time out on the roof since moving studio's. The weather was perfect and I am in LOVE with the brick color up here! I hope to utilize this little outdoor space a lot this summer for my sessions!

Could this kiddo be any cuter? I had such a great session with Jaiden! This little 2 year old cutie models for target and just recently was put on the packaging for targets brand of strawberry/banana mini dried fruit. His mom called me wanting to do an urban session for his two year photos and I was so excited! It's been a while since I've had a chance to do an urban session. We did a few shots in the studio and then headed down to minneapolis and found this awesome ally! Jaiden just has the cutest serious face! Watch out for this hearbreaker in 16 years...ha!

My favorite part of our session this time was going outside on the railroad tracks. I last photographed Gavin & Madeline back when they were 6 months old! Its amazing to me how much they change! Our session this time was in their home and a nearby park. Madeline has such a sweet spirit. She's the type of baby you just want to take on the couch and cuddle with. And sweet Gavin...he's such a joyful child. His smile just lights up the room! After a little snack we headed to a local park and took some family photos and finally we took a few of the kiddos together. Although they were both very tired, Gavin was still willing to give his big sister (by about a minute) a shoulder to lean on :)

Audrey -6 Days

I had the chance to photograph sweet Audrey back in early March. I've been photographing her big brother Charlie for over a year now and it's so fun to watch him interact with his little baby sister! Charlie was so loving towards Audrey and we captured some really sweet images of him touching and kissing his baby sister! So I feel so blessed to be a part of Nolan's life too.

I know it's been quite some time since I've blogged last....March...eeek, I know! A lot has happened since that last blog post. My husband and I found out we were expecting our second baby around the time of that same blog post.

About 5 days after we found out the morning sickness, or for me "all-day" sickness set in! During those 8 weeks I pretty much just needed to focus on getting my work done and trying to rest in-between those times, well when I wasn't chasing my toddler..ha! But at last I'm feeling better now at 13 weeks pregnant and am now in Full wedding season. I may be a little slower at blogging this year because I've got lots keeping me busy but I will be blogging! I sure do miss it!

Baby Hinnenkamp #2 is Due to arrive around October 16th. The plan for right now is for my maternity leave to be Oct 1st-Dec 1st. I'm still hoping to be around to do a Holiday Mini-Session again this year!

Josh & Nicole

Josh and Nicole have a true love story. The couple have been spread apart over 1000 miles for quite some time. Josh has a job out in Boston and Nicole was here in MN finishing up her medical degree. All this time they've been traveling back and forth to see each other. Their wedding marks an amazing change in their relationship because Nicole will finally be able to move out to Boston while waiting to find out where her residency will be in Massachusetts. All day you could just see the love in Nicole and Josh's eyes and the way they would kindly talk to each other. We spent a lot of time in St. Paul taking photos around Rice Park. Their Reception was at 490 on Summit and Nicole put together so many beautiful details. Just before the dance started the candy buffet came out and I think I literally saw the eyeballs of every child pop out of there head..ha! I must admit Nicole is a woman after my own heart we both LOVE candy :) I made sure to grab a little goody bag before I left for the evening. Josh and Nicole I wish you all the best and hope you have an amazing time on your honeymoon in Italy!!

BIG NEWS...JM Photography moving to new Studio space!

I'm excited to announce that as of March 1st, 2009, JM Photography will be moving to a new studio space! It's actually on the same floor as my current space but just down the hall! Although I've loved my current space, I've outgrown the time limits that the Mpls Photo Coop has on its members. I'll now be renting this space privately with just 3 other photographers! This studio space boasts 45oo sq feet of hardwood floors, exposed brick and large windows overlooking the Minneapolis skyline! My favorite part of this space that I didn't have in the old studio is rooftop access! I cannot wait to get up on the roof when the weather gets a tad warmer! If you've signed up for a spring mini-session, they will be held in the new space! I'll be sure to send out more details in March. Thanks again for all your support...just proof again that 2009 is going to be an outstanding and fabulous year for JM Photography!

This is a catch up post! I photographed Gavin and Madeline back in December of 2008. However, I first met Gavin & Madeline back in June 2008 when they were just preemies in the NICU. My daughter happened to be at the same hospital they were born at during the same period. When I saw them, they were just a little over 3lbs each! So incredibly tiny! Now at 6 months they have grown into beautiful babies. Even though they were many weeks early, these kiddos were fighters! I feel so privileged that their mom and dad chose me to document their growth! I know they will only continue to grow and do great things in life because they are so deeply loved by their parents Wes and Elisa.

I was so excited to see Nolan, my best friend's 2nd son today! I first photographed him in the hospital 5 days ago and was itching to have a full session with this little guy! As a mom myself you just forget so fast how little these precious little babies are! I know I photograph them all the time but each baby is so beautiful and unique in his or her own way. Nolan was a snuggler and loved to have his hands by his face! This worked great for a lot of our photographs today. He also gave us a run for our money though towards the end of the session :) Oh and he "sprinkled" me a little bit too...just showing me who's the boss! I had so much fun designing Nolan's birth announcement. Shannon was so up for non-traditional colors and I Love the way it turned out. Congratulations again Knutson family...so happy for you all!!

Russ and Amber were married on January 24th, 2008 and it was quite possibly the coldest day I've ever photographed a wedding! As I drove to the Mermaid in Moundsview my car temperature read -6 degrees...YIKES! But let me tell you Russ and Amber had enough love to make the day feel very warm! We started off the morning with the girls getting their make-up done by Julie from Smart & Chic Bride. Julie and I have done quite a few weddings together and her make-up and hair styles are out of this world! The ceremony was in a very quaint room decorated by one of Amber's friends named Jenny. I told Jenny she needs to quit her day job and be a full-time wedding decor specialist! She did ALL of the decorations for Russ and Amber's wedding including the brides bouquet and reception details. After a beautiful ceremony we braved the chilly temperatures and headed to Long Lake Park for outdoor photos. The lighting was perfect and I'm so incredibly glad the bride and groom were up for the chilly temps! I also want to throw a thank you out to Kirsten, owner of Fabyoulous Events. She did an absolute superb job of keeping the day running smoothly and taking care of everyone, including the photographers! The reception was hopping when we returned from the park and we settled in for an evening of remarkable speeches and a touching first dance between Russ and Amber. Congratulations Guys and wishing you nothing but the best!

Nolan Michael-1 day

My best friend Shannon, her husband Kyle and big brother Griffin welcomed beautiful Nolan Michael into the world on January 22nd around 2:45pm. Shannon was originally scheduled to have a c-section on the 23rd, but little Nolan had his own plan! In the wee hours of the 22nd, Shannon's water broke on it's own, I guess Nolan wanted to show them who's boss..ha! Today I went for a visit in the hospital and of course had to take my camera with! Here are a few photos I took on the hospital bed. I'm excited for our "real" newborn session scheduled next Wednesday morning! On January 17th, 2009 there were light flurries falling through the air and a brisk wind. Had it been just one day earlier temperatures would have been -27 windchill. So today was PERFECT for a Minnesota winter wonderland wedding... starring Heather and Adam! They looked like they came straight out of a Cinderella story book. Heather is the type of person that you want to be around. She is just a sweetheart and did a wonderful job planning her wedding. She had a million beautiful details for me to photograph! She also planned lots of extra time for photos...a photographers dream! It took me HOURS to narrow down photos for the blog. So many turned out amazing, but I thought these really told the story of the day. Adam and Heather were magical together and it really shows on camera. My favorite part of the day was venturing to Mears Park in St. Paul for some photos beneath the twinkle lights. As the evening ended for me, Heather went out in true Cinderella style...she lost her shoe on the dance floor while doing a beautiful Waltz with her prince charming, her husband Adam!

Sawyers mom contacted me in October to set up an appointment for his 9 month photos. She was currently looking for some more creative photos than what they were receiving at there other studio. Of course I was so happy she thought I could capture those photos for her. We had a great first session! Sawyer was such a happy little boy and totally hammed it up for the camera. Mom Stefanie brought some great props with like a little train and onsie that had Sawyer's name on it! Those types of things always add a little personalization to a session and I always encourage parents to bring stuff they think would be fun to add into the photos! Today marks the 1 year anniversary of me doing photography FULL time. I remember the day I gave notice at my old job was so hard. It was such a leap of faith to quit that steady paycheck but man was it WORTH IT! I feel so incredibly blessed that I cannot even describe in words how much this business means to me. I appreciate and adore my clients and feel so thankful to have you all! Without you all, my business is nothing, and for that I am so thankful. Andy and Julie had a gorgeous wedding in a very unique way! During the ceremony Julie sported a beautiful floor length veil. Andy and Julie couldn't keep their eyes off each other the entire time. They were like two giddy little school kids...so cute! After the ceremony Julie kicked up her heals, literally changed her heals to bright red...HOT pumps and sported a 50's inspired bird cage veil. She was absolutely stunning! Before heading to the reception we stopped at Julie's friends' loft in Minneapolis. It was snowing and FREEZING, but Julie is originally from Alaska so she was game for anything! It had a breathtaking view of Minneapolis on the rooftop and we got some amazing photos there. Then it was off to William's bar in uptown where Julie and Andy met. Our last stop of the evening was the Varsity Theater where guests celebrated with Joy the love that these two share. It was absolutely stunning in there and the lights just made Andy and Julie glow even more!!!

Where do I even start with Brian and Jessica! They are two very amazing people and I can see how they found each other. They both have magnetic personalities that you are instantly drawn to. My time with them just seemed to fly by and I couldn't have asked for better clients. They were totally up for anything...and I mean anything! Although the falls were not running when we were there we had some great photo opportunities in the creek. Mitch and Jessica decided to have their engagement session done at the Little Log Village in Hastings. Their wedding reception will be there next year and why not spend a little extra time there getting some photos for their engagement pics! Mitch grew up not too far from the village on his parents farm. Which is part of the reason this place appealed to Jess and Mitch! We had a great time today despite the frigid wind. Crystal and Jason were married on Saturday, October 11th. I received an email about a week before their wedding that Crystal had broke her ankle a few weeks prior! I know if I was Crystal I would have panicked but she didn't! In fact she was so cool about everything and seriously was one of my happiest brides this year. She wasn't about to let a little broken ankle ruin her day. It probably had a lot to do with Jason..he officially wins best hubby of the year award from JM Photography! He took such good care of Crystal all day. Helping her in and out of her wheel chair and on her crutches. He supported her so she could stand for a few pictures and my favorite photo of the day is them standing at the alter and his hand is on hers over the crutches. It's just so incredibly sweet and melted my heart when I saw him do that! I hope you guys had a wonderful honeymoon in Duluth!!

I think Joleen and Tom have the two cutest kids around! I last photographed these cuties in May but this session is my new favorite! I headed to Sauk Rapids early Saturday morning to photograph Mike and Beth's wedding. They had a gorgeous church with beautiful grounds surrounding it. We took a lot of the photos outside there because the trees were just glowing! We headed to St. Cloud to the 400 Supper Club for their Reception. The boat club overlooks gorgeous Pheasant Lake! Before the evening was over we had a chance to go outside and take some gorgeous photos on the lake dock and then Mike did this amazing side kick as they were walking down the road together at sunset. It was seriously the CUTEST thing ever :) Mike and Beth are both the sweetest people you'll ever meet and I'm so glad they found each other because they are just perfect for one another!

Jenna and Lief are so cute together and we had a great evening on Friday down at St. Anthony and Main taking their engagement photos. The lighting was just perfect! I know I've mentioned this before but the lighting in the fall is just awesome! It makes the leaves just glow...as clearly seen in the first photo! While on our quest for engagement photos we ran into lots of little critters like a beaver and a deer! I had the privilege to photograph the Bohn's this evening at Fort Snelling State Park and it was a gorgeous evening to take some family photos! The Bohn children wanted to do this session as a gift to their parents who've been married a wonderful 35 years. Eugene and Jenny are an amazingly beautiful couple. I had such a great time with them this morning down at St. Anthony and Main. I couldn't wait to get home and upload these images...I seriously don't think they could take a bad photo..ha ha! We had the most amazing light this morning down there. I love the season of fall because you get the best sunlight this time of year and it just makes the skin glow. I am in LOVE with the third shot down!! Jenny and Eugene look amazing and the light is just perfect....HOT :) Can't wait to photograph your wedding guys!!

Nathan and Alesha were married on September 27th, 2008 at the Albertson Farm in Stillwater. It was a nice cool day for an outdoor wedding and the gardens there were absolutely stunning. I started out my day with Alesha getting some photos of her getting ready and in her gorgeous dress. She had the perfect spot in her home for a few close ups! We spent the rest of the afternoon at the Albertson Farm for the ceremony and bridal party photos. Then we were off to the reception at the Scandia Creamery. What a great little place in a small town. It's decorated beautifully and Alesha added a lot of great personal touches to make it just perfect for their wedding day!

Andrew -2 Years

Andrew is just the cutest little 2 year old. I was very impressed at his counting skills. He really enjoyed counting to 10 and would smile as he did it. Definitely helped me to get some great photos! We started out doing some shots at Andrew's home and then we headed to his favorite park in Farmington!!

Andrew and Jessica were so much fun tonight! We had a beautiful evening to cruise Minneapolis for some awesome engagement photos. Jessica told me she wasn't good at the serious look...I think she's crazy! She's got the best "sexy-hot" stare...ha ha! Little inside joke :) But really Andrew and Jessica were so great together, they really meshed well and we got some fabulous photos tonight! Can't wait for your wedding next year guys!

Justin and Jessie were married on Saturday, September 20th and we got started at Jessie's apartment for some getting ready photos. Jessie had lots of great details for me to photograph before we headed to a park for some great photos of the happy couple and their wedding party. Jessie and Justin had a beautiful ceremony and reception. They incorporated a lot of personal aspects into their wedding. They both LOVE the Vikings, which is why they chose the color purple and had small details through out the day that were also Viking themed.

Rob and Cindy were married on Friday, September 19th, 2008. I was absolutely in love with the outside of their ceremony site, All Saints Church in Lakeville. It had gorgeous arches and a beautiful field in back. We spent the majority of our time in these locations and the photos really turned out amazing. They had a great reception at Stonebrook Golf Course in Shakopee. Their wedding planner Travis Johnson did an amazing job of pulling all the decorations together. Congratulations guys and enjoy your wonderful tropical honeymoon!

Danielle will be graduation high school this year in Monticello. I don't get the opportunity to do many senior sessions so I really had a blast with Dani yesterday. We started out in the studio and then I brought her to some of my favorite spots in Minneapolis. She was really great in front of the camera and super natural looking.
